Previous: Listing Search Settings

The search bar in the listings tab has For Sale selected by default followed by filters Property Type, Asking Price, Property Sq Ft and so on. For Lease option has Property Type, Rental Rate and Sq Ft selected by default. The filter list can be customized to set any field that is used frequently for searching listings.

Lets try to add CAP rate as one of the main search criteria for sale listings.

Follow the steps to add a new field or rearrange the existing filter fields

  1. Go to Setup on the the top left corner of the site

  1. Click on Develop | Custom Settings | Listing Search Filters

  1. Click Manage

  1. This will list all the Sale and Lease related filters. If you do not see all the columns in the image below, click edit next to the view to add the following columns and click Save

  1. Field label

  2. Order Number

  3. Object Name

  4. Selected Type

  5. Visible

  1. The Order Number specifies the order in which the filters are arranged in the search bar. Visible field describes if the field is visible in the search bar. If you want to change the order or visibility of any of the fields already present in the list, click edit next to the corresponding field.

    1. Note that if there are two fields with same order number, the second instance will be ignored. Please don't create duplicate order numbers.

Adding a new field to filter

As you have noticed, we need the field API name and Object Name to add a new field to the filter. You can only add the fields from listing and property objects for Sale, and spaces and property objects for Lease.

Note: The property type (order 1) is a mandatory filter and cannot be removed or replaced. Although you can add as many filters as you want, we recommend not to add more than nine filters.

Lets get the field API name and Object Name for CAP Rate. CAP rate is a field from listings object.

  1. Go to Setup | Create | Objects

  2. Click on Listing

  3. Copy the object name and paste it in a notepad

  1. Scroll down to custom fields and relationships section and find CAP Rate

Now we have both the field API name and the Object API name. Now get back to Setup | Develop | Custom Settings | Listing Search Filters

  1. Click New

  1. Fill in all the fields

    1. Name - Append “Sale” to the name for easy identification

    2. Field API Name - The API name step 4 of the previous section. Note that you need to remove the “McLabs__” from the API name.

    3. Field Label - How the field is described in the filter

    4. Object Name - Object API name from step 3 of the prior section. No need to remove the McLabs__ here.

    5. Provide an order number. Here I provided 9 as there are already 8 fields. I will later rearrange by changing the order numbers.

    6. Provide the record type here. Type Sale for filters that applies to sale listings and Lease for filters that applies to landlord listings.Note: This field is case sensitive

    7. Check the visible box

    8. Save and close the box.

I swapped the order numbers for CAP Rate and Property Sq.Ft

Voila, now my filter panel has CAP Rate
